Samsung today announced that will be expanding its mobile payment service, Samsung Pay, to Singapore — the first country in Southeast Asia. The company’s announcement comes less than a day after Apple launched Apple Pay in the country. Samsung has already secured partnerships with American Express, MasterCard, Visa, and major banks like DBS/OCBC Bank and Standard Chartered as launch partners. The Korean company expects to launch Samsung Pay in Singapore “by as early as Q2 2016”....

According to Bloomberg, wages in Vietnam are one third of those in China. That’s why Samsung, as well as several other high profile companies, either already have or are planning to set up shop in the country. Samsung is building a phone factory there that’s going to start pumping out devices in February 2014. Once everything is fully ramped up in 2015, said factory is expected to produce 120 million smartphones a year....

Samsung’s TouchWiz which has stirred up quite a few controversies is now in the limelight again, and this time its by an Italian blog. HDblog.it, the blog in question, has a video showing what they claim is the newest TouchWiz UI from Samsung that should debut on the Galaxy Note 7. The newer version of the UI has more subdued colours and a cleaner look. The video shows us different personalisation and customisation options such as manipulating widgets, applying different themes and changing the wallpaper....

In a statement to Business Korea, Samsung confirmed that it will begin bundling the app on all Galaxy phones that include a fingerprint scanner, which will no longer be limited to the flagships mid-range models. Earlier this year, Koh Dong-n, president of Samsung’s mobile division announced that the company was exploring ways to bring fingerprint readers to budget phones such as the Galaxy series, an affordable line of hsets targeted at emerging markets....

SanDisk has just announced their new “Extreme” microSD cards. They say the cards can hit 80 MBps, and they’re not joking. The guys over at Android Police tested the 64GB model, and they managed to achieve 78 MBps using a dedicated card reader. It’s when they shoved the card inside a phone that things went to hell. When tested in a Galaxy Note II, the card only got 15 MBps read and write speeds....

It has long been rumored that WhatsApp is slated to get voice calling features — something which was confirmed by the company’s CEO earlier this year. The feature was initially expected to rollout in the second half of this year, but was delayed due to technical difficulties, and is now scheduled to be released in the first half of 2015.
